New Stuff from SPD

I’ve said in this blog, on several listservs, in print, in person, in spirit across and/or through the tone-deaf ether (it seems), that bringing new readers to contemporary poetry is one of the most important things we can be doing as poets, as readers and teachers of poetry, as editors and publishers. I’m encouraged that the new catalogue from Small Press Distribution foregrounds poetry and schools, albeit focusing more on poetry taught at the university rather than secondary level. On page 4, the catalogue highlights books taught in classes, including the course name in the listing. Titles include: Snowball’s Chance by John Reed, One Stick Song by Sherman Alexie, Handbook of Poetic Forms edited by Ron Padgett (one of my favorites as poet and teacher), Rules of the House by Tsering Wangmo Dhompa, Sounding Off! Music as Subversion/Resistance/Revolution edited by Ron Sakolsky and Fred Wei-han Ho, and This Bridge Called My back: Writings of Radical Women of Color edited by Cherrie L. Moraga and Gloria E. Anzaldua.

I’m also excited to slap down some money for new books by Susan Smith Nash, I Never Did Tell You Did I? (Unsent Letters) and Turneresque by Elizabeth Willis.
