School's out in less than two weeks. Some things I'm looking forward to:
- Finishing the half dozen or so books I'm into, Chrisitan Bok's Eunoia, Forrest Gander's The Blue Rock Collection, Philip Levine's The Simple Truth, Herbert Mason's verse translation of Gilgamesh, Jena Osman's Amblyopia among them.
- Finding others to read (I'm begging for suggestions), read, read, read, read, read ( and not have to assess, evaluate, assign...)
- Working with Liam on an alien pet essay contest (but I also want to ask him who is his pet alien; imaginary friends are oh so different now).
- Writing everyday. I've got one sequence to finish up - Compass Points - and a couple others to get out of my head and started.
- Catching up, e.g the new xerolages from xexoxial. Answering mail - postal and electronic - again.
- Finishing up the editing SPORE 2.0, an issue of ekphrastic writing.
- Smelling the garden grow. Smelling the garden know.
- Nothing.
- Bike riding miles and miles with Liam, Noemi, and Laurie.
- To read and write blogs and listservs. One post I'm looking forward to writing: I assign an end-of-the-year writing booklet, an assignment in which I hope students show and argue for the best of their best. The last six years or so the assignment has expanded to encourage some rather incredible artists' books, presentations of writing that include swimming pools, barf bags, flip-flops, mobiles, picnic spreads, motorcylcle helmets, treasure chests, trees, toilets... I can't get enough of the ways students choose to showcase their writing. I look forward to posting some photographs of some of these pieces.
