Any time you snap up a couple dozen men willing to blow themselves and others up (and then down) in the air, that’s great news. That’s incredible news.
I’m a bit worried though. With our current administration’s back-patting reflex (“You’re doing a heck of a job Brownie” and “Mission Accomplished!” the first two back-slaps that leap to mind), couldn’t someone who really wants to hurt us use that to its advantage, e.g. diverting attention from its real plans by setting up a crew to get arrested, moving fast with plans while everyone’s busy congratulating themselves?
I’m a wee bit encouraged that not everyone is dizzy with praise on a job well-done. On Thursday, current Senate Minority Leader Sen. Harry Reid (D-Nev.), said: "The Iraq war has diverted our focus and more than $300 billion in resources from the war on terrorism and has created a rallying cry for international terrorists. This latest plot demonstrates the need for the Bush administration and the Congress to change course in Iraq and ensure that we are taking all the steps necessary to protect Americans at home and across the world.''
I’m worried, too, because much of my family may be in the air in the next couple weeks as we take care of my father (currently hospitalized, perhaps with a recurrence of colon cancer) and prepare to move him from his house in the Wisconsin woods to North Carolina.
