Indeed, it's time to follow-up on the two excellent sound poetry festivals held in Portland in this as-yet-to-be-named decade (2000s?), to take the baton Mark Owen and David Abel and others so ably ran with, to bring sound poets to one Northwest place, to re-VERB-er-ATE.
Here's the proposal: A festival in Moscow, Idaho, from April 3 to April 5, 2008.
We would start with an ensemble performance on the evening of April 3, followed up on April 4 by appearances in K-12 classrooms in Moscow and Pullman, WA, as well as University of Idaho and Washington State University creative writing classes. On the evening of April 4 we would have another ensemble performance (different poems, different personnel, different interactions... and another possibility: students performing pieces created during school visits). Late morning/early afternoon on April 5, I see another ensemble performance, including an outdoor activity, one designed to yank in a wider audience... Might also find space for a visual poetry show.
Let me know, wherever you reside, whether you're interested in being a part of this proposed festival. We may have a little money to help cut travel costs, etc. E-mail me if you're at least 66% sure you'd like to do this. If I get a dozen bites or more by the end of July, I'll go into second gear--wider calls, various solicitations, tentative bookings...
Some nibbles of interest so far from Nico Vassilakis, mIEKAL aND, Geof Huth, Andrew Topel, Chris Piuma, David-Baptiste Chirot...
