New Book from Blue & Yellow Dog Press: Felino A. Soriano's "Realities of Bifocal Translations"

Felino A. Soriano's "Realities of Bifocal Translations" is dominated by jazz echoes, scatted as it were, and its idioms, as well as the personal and celebrated brushstrokes of 20^th and 21^st Century painting translated to poetry. Predominately one page takes, the poems, executed in a hybrid of modernist/postmodernist syntax, offer the reader a swirling look down & up at the all-important avant-garde heritage of us all. Simultaneously historic and contemporary, the poems in this volume do what good ekphrastic poetry (or music or painting) should do...dip its tongue in the honey and lay it back down, poised like the instrument all musicians/artists/poets share—experience and articulated reality.

no the body remains horizontal

adequate fondness of dawn’s treasure of tone.

There are only 5 volumes of poetry published so far in Raymond Farr’s Blue & Yellow Dog Press Book Shop  (a spin-off of his on line poetry journal Blue & Yellow Dog)— four volumes by Raymond Farr, and Felino Soriano’s Realities of Bifocal Translations. The next book to appear in the B&YDog Book Shop Series, will be Adam Fieled’s latest prospect, Equations, due out sometime in August 2010. Any full length poetry ms is welcome. Performers, poets, and friends will gather to test the capability of the poem as conversation. Many of the poems performed on Sunday will be from years past, and by poets no longer with us; others contemporary and presented by their authors. All will be performed by multiple voices, some by speaking or singing chorus, and several will include the opportunity for audience creativity and participation. Please bring your own refreshments and accommodations for seating (towels or folding chairs).

Naïve realism, things are as they seem to the things themselves. Things are not errors in perception, the distance between microscopic and macroscopic. Naïve realism was a point of departure for certain cognition, the case applied to analysis isolated from theory supporting the idea of openings in the clouds, namely questions, the hub in the vapory masses. There is enough fact between him and the sun. I have exactly the same rays, the means of seeing love and desire behind the thought.

Thinking and Writing about China? Think about sending work to Cha: An Asian Literary Journal

Cha: An Asian Literary Journal (http://asiancha.com/) is now accepting
submissions for "The China Issue", an edition of the journal devoted
exclusively to work from and about contemporary China. The issue, which will
be published in June 2011, will feature poetry, fiction, creative non-fiction,
scholarly works and visual art exploring the modern Middle Kingdom. We are
looking for submissions from a wide range of Chinese and international voices
on the social, political and cultural forces which are shaping the country. If you
have something interesting, opinionated or fresh to say about China today, we
would like to hear from you. Please note that we can only accept submissions
in English.

We are pleased to announce that distinguished Chinese scholar and poet Yibing
Huang will be joining Cha as guest editor for the issue (see his biography
below). Huang has graciously agreed to lend us his extensive knowledge of
Chinese literature and keen critical eye to help us select the pieces and shape
the issue.

The Reviews section will be devoted exclusively to books related to China. If
you have a recent book that you think would be right for review in "The China
Issue", we encourage you to contact our Reviews Editor Eddie Tay at
eddie@asiancha.com. Books should be sent to Eddie before the end of March
2011.

If you would like to have work considered for "The China Issue", please submit
by email to submissions@asiancha.com by 15th April, 2011. Please include
"The China Issue" in the subject line of the email or your work will
automatically be considered for one of the regular issues. Submissions to the
