A new pod has swum aground

a sliver of strand

that arches into

the Tasman Sea,

hours after volunteers

refloated another group

following a mass stranding

“Rosemary,”

 

her sister said,

Tonight at a poetry reading

I learned

that the cemetery

in Hugo, Oklahoma

(once known as

Circus City, USA),

has a section

designated Showmen’s Rest,

marked off by granite posts

topped by small

elephant statues

In the center

a headstone depicts

an elephant

up on two feet,

“A Tribute To All

Showmen Under

God’s Big Top.”

 

This morning

Jupiter appeared

to have a black eye

actually the dark shadow

of Ganymede

solar system’s largest moon.

Today sweat soaks

Stalin-era apartment block

He said we couldn’t leave
